Choosing a D2P Topic

The possible topics for Data to Policy projects are broad. The focus should be considering public data for improving our community through policy. The categories that our team supports via curated data and contextual readings are “Policing” and “Housing”, but we encourage students to engage in any subject that motivates them. We also want to emphasize that these projects can investigate the lack of public data needed to help solve problems. Get Context

Data analysis is highly susceptible to misinterpretation and misuse. Relationships between communities of color, law enforcement, and housing policies have a complex and often contentious history. Even with environmental data, how humans choose to sample the real world can add a bias to the data model.

D2P has compiled a list of resources to help provide some background on these relationships to help deepen understanding of the issues being addressed by D2P projects.
