The latest addition to Auraria Library Digital Collections is the West Side Recorder, a well-known Denver newspaper published by the residents and community leaders of Denver's West Side. West Side Recorder was one of many community-driven and activist newspapers that supported this predominantly Chicana/o and Hispanic neighborhood. It reported everything from the hiring of new local librarians to the local appearance of activists like Cesar Chavez and poignantly served as a voice for the community during the relocation of Auraria neighborhood residents prior to the establishment of Auraria Campus. This collection comprises a decade of West Side Recorder with only a few issue gaps. Our hope is that the digitization of this crucial example of local voices from the Chicana/o and Hispanic community will be of value to students and faculty interested in small-press papers that serve local communities of color, as well as to the former and current residents of Denver's West Side.
