Collaborative Environment

The Innovation Garage is here to facilitate imagining, designing, creating, and building. Current Auraria Campus affiliates can come together in a low-stakes, DIY environment where we give you the time and tools to work on your projects.

The flexible layout, abundant natural light, and ample collaborative tools provide a physical and mental space to enable you to bring a fresh perspective to any project or group meeting.

Some of the technical machines require scheduled training prior to use. Please see the full list of offerings below for more details on how to get started using our space!

Who can use the Innovation Garage and how?

Current students, staff, or faculty of CU Denver, MSU Denver, or CCD can use the Innovation Garage in the Auraria Library. All users need to take equipment and safety training prior to scheduling independent time.

Equipment

3D Printing

3D printers can be reserved by appointment after scheduling and completing equipment and safety training.

Payment Details:

We only charge for the cost of the materials and accept credit card payments only. You will only be charged for successful printing; the same file may be attempted 3 times before assessment. Due to the calibration process of the printers, we are limited to PLA filament and cannot use any other user provided materials.

  • Maximum build volume– 250 x 210 x 220 mm (9.84 x 8.3 x 8.6 in)

Appropriate Use of 3D Printers:

All Innovation Garage equipment supports the creative and academic activities of Auraria Campus's current students, faculty, and staff. As such, and by the Auraria Campus's Weapons Policy, Auraria Library's 3D printers may not be used to make weapons of any kind or any other item designed to harm others physically, economically, or socially.

Poster Printing

Printers can be reserved by appointment after scheduling and completing equipment and safety training.

Please note, we are a learning space bridging the gap between the home printer and professional printer; we are not a commercial service. No drop-in or departmental printing allowed.

Payment Details:

We only charge for the cost of the materials and accept credit card payments only. Due to the calibration process of the printers, we are limited to the materials below and cannot use any other user provided materials. Printing is limited to 48” per day on roll printers and 4 pieces of paper on sheet printer.

Printers:

Epson SureColor P800 / 16” Wide sheet printer.

Prints can be made in the following size and paper options. Dimensions can be cut down. Prices are per page. Single side only.

  • 12”x18” Heavyweight Cardstock Paper: $5.00
  • 16”x20” Heavyweight Cardstock Paper: $7.00
  • 12”x18” Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper: $7.50
  • 16”x20” Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper: $10.00
  • 8.5”x11” Epson Luster Photo Paper: $4.00
  • 12”x18” Epson Luster Photo Paper: $6.00
Epson SureColor P6000 / 24” Wide Roll Printer with luster paper or cardstock

24” wide printer: Prints can be a maximum of 24” wide. This service costs $6.00 per linear foot with pricing rounded up to the nearest 25 cents.

Epson SureColor P8000 / 44” Wide Roll Printer with cardstock 

44” wide printer: Prints can be a maximum of 44” wide. This service costs $9.00 per linear foot with pricing rounded up to the nearest 25 cents.

Vinyl Cutter

Vinyl cutter can be reserved by appointment after scheduling and completing equipment and safety training.

Design and create your own vinyl stickers. The vinyl cutter uses a small knife to precisely cut a vector outline into a roll of vinyl. Not to be confused with a vinyl printer, our cutter can only accommodate one color vector designs.

Payment Details:

We only charge for the cost of the materials and accept credit card payments only. Due to the calibration process of the cutter we cannot use any other user provided materials.

Vinyl Cutter:

Graphtec CE6000 PLUS Vinyl Cutter Plotter:

Vinyl stickers can be a maximum of 18”x18” in a variety of colors. This services costs $0.75 per linear inch with pricing rounded up to the nearest inch per color. Price includes transfer tape. We’ll also show you how to weed away excess vinyl and prepare the sticker for application elsewhere.

Sewing Machine

After scheduling and completing equipment and safety training, the sewing machine can be reserved by appointment. If you already know how to sew, please indicate this on your appointment notes, and we can review the specifics of this machine with you. Appointments provide access to the sewing machine and our limited selection of thread and needles.

 

Payment Details:

We do not charge for the use of the sewing machine. Please keep in mind that we do not supply any sewing materials other than sewing tools like scissors, bobbins, and needles. You will need to procure any other sewing materials for your project.

In-Person

  • Visit the Ask Us Desk
    The Ask Us Service Desk is located on the first floor of the Library and provides in-person help by answering questions about the Library, Campus, or three Institutions. This service also loans anatomical items, technology items (such as phone charges and calculators), plus course reserves, or textbooks, for some classes.

  • Research Consultations
    Research consultations are for in-depth and lengthy discussions about research questions. Please use Schedule a Research Consultation Form to request an appointment. We can help you out via Zoom or over the phone. Due to the level of preparation needed, appointments should be made 48 hours in advance. If you need immediate help, please use our 24/7 chat service.
