Featured Database: Access World News

You can use databases to easily find organized collections of articles, journals, news, streaming videos, primary sources, data, and more!

Here’s one of our most used databases:

Access World News

What’s in it?

Includes thousands of full text local, regional, national, and international newspapers, as well as newswires, blogs, and more. Includes Colorado publications, including “The Denver Post.”

Why should you use it?

Access World News has almost 5,000 newspaper sources from around the world, with some content going back to the early 1800’s. It’s a great source for news and events that happened at a global level and in small communities. One tool of the database is the Locator Map where you can use a map to find newspapers specific to an area in the United States. Much of the content is scanned pages so you can see the layout and design of newspapers from decades ago.

Who should use it?

This is a great resource for researchers, students, faculty, and staff looking for primary sources in the form of newspaper articles and images. Great for history, archival, ethnic studies, and related research.

Why use a database?

When you use a specific database, rather than a search engine or discovery tool, you often can find more relevant sources. For example, subject databases include sources about that subject only, rather than a general search engine or discovery tool that includes information about everything. This way you don’t have to wade through thousands of irrelevant results!
