Here in Auraria Library Special and Digital Collections we came across a small collection of United Nations filmstrips. What are filmstrips, you ask? Prior to the advent and availability of video formats, many educational films were produced as short filmstrips, which were still images accompanied by synchronized audio tapes or vinyl records. They were much less expensive--and faster--to produce than motion pictures, so were very attractive for educational markets. This particular filmstrip, Children in High Places: WFP in Bhutanwas produced by the World Food Programme (WFP), a division of the United Nations whose goal is to provide food assistance, education, and agricultural training in countries and communities that struggle to produce and secure sufficient food. This filmstrip, and others like it in our collections, are part of our larger collection of United Nations ephemera that includes films, videos, publications, and posters.
